MER Clinic: Turnout Construction for Appearance and Reliability

Presented by Bill Ataras @ MER Rockville 2013

A simple approach for scratch building turnouts will be described. Bill has earned the Model Railroad Engineer, Civil Achievement Program Certificate using these techniques. In addition, the same methods have been used to construct curved turnouts, three-way turnouts, crossings, and even 12-point double slip switches. We will go step-by-step from laying out the turnout to constructing all of the parts. Even the frog is so simple that many past attendees have overcome their fears and built reliable, high quality turnouts for their own layouts.
